Precision Investment Cast Tensile Tests of Low Alloy Steel

Sound tensile specimens of steel cast by precision investment casting can be employed to determine the strength and ductility of well-fed precision castings and the optimum tensile properties that can be obtained in a best of steel sand castings. Four heats of AISI 4330 steel were cast in the form of precision cast bare were cast in clustere of four in keelnBlocks the precision cast bars were cast in clustere of four in each flask.nHowever none of these methods wee successful in obtaining the proper directional solidification within the cast tensile bar and in producing a completely sound tensile specimen. The ductility measurements obtained from these unsound tensile specimens were inferior to those of the keel block specimens.
