EXPLORATORY RESEARCH ON THE APPLICATION OF ULTRASONICS TO SPOTWELDING

摘要

An investigation was undertaken to determine the effects of ultrasonics on the spotwelding of 24S-T Alclad aluminum alloy. Tests were conducted at 1000 kc, 300kc, and 15 kc, but positive results were achieved only in the kc tests. Improvements were noted in the average and minimum shear strengths, in the coefficients of variation, and in the incidence of cracks; in certain instances, the microstructure of the ultrasonically treated sgotwelds indicated grain refinement, more random orientation of the east structure, and a blending of the cast metal into the wrought grains of the rolled sheet
