In military operations involving amphibious warfare there are two general classifications of intelligence-strategic and tactical.nStrategic Intelligence probably corresponds to the "pre-planning tasks" of Naval Intelligence. It includes the collection, evaluation and distribution of information which is necessary in the selection of objectives. Information must be obtained and evaluated so that questions of the following types may be answered:n(i) Call landings be made in sufficient force to establish a beach-head? (Size and type of shorelines, terrain, tides, wave climate, etc.)n(ii) Can sufficient material be supplied to forces on shore? (Harbor facilities, possibility of artificial harbors, feasibility of supplying extended operations across beaches, etc.)
