摘要

Specimens from one heat of SAE 3140 steel were given a fixed austenitizing treatment and then heat treated to provide three microstructures with the same hardness: tempered maeteasite, pearlite, and tempered pearlite. The temperature of transition from tough to brittle fracture in the V-notched Charpy impact test was then determined for each microstructure, with and without a treatment designed to develop temper brittleness.
