SUBMARINE MINE CABLE AND ASSOCIATED TEST SETS FOR USE WITH CONTROLLED MINES

This report deals with the evaluation of M6 submarine mine cable and the suitability of the Telemetroscope and Telemetron for locating faults in this cable. The experimental data presented is not sufficient to indicate that the M6 cable is satisfactory or unsatisfactory for use with the Mark 2 Mod 0 Mine Control System. Evidence which is presented indicates that although the Telemetroscope will not injure M6 cable, this instrument is not adequate for locating faults at a harbor defense installation. Limited range and mechanical weaknesses combine to make the Telemetroscope unsuitable. Probable accuracy, maximum range and overall mechanical and electrical design of the Telemetroscope are discussed.
