A survey, study, and classification of electrical oscillating circuits was made for the purpose of assembling information useful in the design of telemetering circuits at the Aero Medical Laboratory, Wright Air Develop¬ment Center. All work was performed at The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore 18, Maryland. First, a study of oscillators was made to determine the types of circuits producing high proportional frequency change as a single circuit element is varied. Next, a study was made of circuits for producing frequency variations of an oscillator in response to an actuating voltage from a high impedance source. In all cases, the circuits had to be limited to those of minimum size and complexity using either transistors or subminiature filament type tubes. Only frequencies below one megacycle and deviations less than + 7.5 per cent were considered. Design equations and procedures are presented.
