Preliminary Study of Glass and Plastic Films using Electron Diffraction and Electron Microscopy

Thin films of acrylic plastic prepared from solutions of plastic in amyl acetate are shown by electron diffraction to be highly crystalline, and the crystalllnity is shown to change with the aging of the films. The crystallinlty of the films and the observed effects of aging are explained on the basis of the micelle" theory conmonly accepted as the explanation of somewhat similar effects in rubber. Electron micrographs of the films tend to substantiate this view.
