As long as the variables dealt with in film research are concerned with learning and achievement, it is not too difficult to construct tests for which the observed distributions of measurements are normal or approxi¬mately normal. This is fortunate because the analysis of variance and various other tests of significance used in the statistical analysis of experi¬mental data involve the assumption that the measures being analyzed are normally distributed.
