摘要

The determination of the angular position of a target with search radar data is treated as a problem in estimating statistically the value of a parameter of a population. The problem is formulated in a man­ner which places in evidence the effect of two random processes, receiver noise and target scintillation, and furnishes the basis for estimating target azimuth. It is proven that the search radar situation does not admit an optimum estimator; an optimum estimator is defined to be one that is sufficient and most effi­cient.
