Experiments with artificially inoculated fruits kept under conditions, favoring development of decay have been made employing gamma radiation to' determine the possibility of extending the shelf and storage life of fresh fruits. The fungi used were those commonly found causing decay of the fruits studied. These fungi have been observed in their various growth "phases as germinating conidia and developing mycelium following irradiation. The influence of the medium whether of a defined chemical nature or as the natural suscept has also been studied to determine conditioning factors for, survival of the pathogen. Finally, observations have been made of;changes taking place within the suscept which alter both texture and color after prolonged storage periods.
