This investigation was planned to extend the generality of the findings of a series of earlier experiments relating to the action of perceptual "set" as an aid to the identification of ambiguous visual stimuli. Practical situations involving data presentation frequently require the operator to search for and select a critical stimulus before attempting to identify it. It was therefore sought to learn how setting cues might be utilized to facilitate identification when both location and identification uncertainty existed simultaneously in the ambiguous stimulus situation
