ON THE CONJUGACY OF REAL CARTAN SUBALGEBRAS

Among the questions which have been raised, concerning the structure of a connected semi-simple Lie group are those relating to conjugacy of its Cartan subgroups.nIn case the group is either compact or complex it is a well known fact (and indeed a fundamental one) that all Cartan subgroups are conjugate. It is also known that this is not true in general.
