The Effects of Friction on the Accuracy of Knob Settings

Continuous friction values ranging from approximately.01 ft. pounds to 8.71 ft. pounds had no important influence on the mean accuracy of knob settings although friction did appear to reduce mean error when the angle to be bisected (zone of uncertainty) was 40°. There was a definite tendency for the scores to deviate further from the mean (variability to increase) as friction became greater.
