DETERMINING THE PARTICLE SIZE OF BARIUM NITRATE POWDER

The particle size distribution of various samples of barium nitrate powder was determined by the following methods:na. Andreasen pipettenb. Microscopic countnc. Fisher-Dotts apparatusnd. Wagner turbidimeternThe results obtained showed poor agreement among the different methods. The methods found most suitable for routine analysis were those using the Wagner turbidimeter and the Fisher-Dotts apparatus. Differences in sensitivity were shown to exist between these two methods at various micron size ranges.nThe Andreasen pipette and micro¬scopic count methods, although capable of yielding satisfactory results, proved too tedious and time-consuming for use in making routine analyses.
