A NEW ENRICHMENT BROTH MEDIUM FOR GRAM-NEGATIVE ORGANISM OF THE INTESTINAL GROUP

A new enrichment broth medium (GN) for all types of enterobacteria was devised. Only by direct plating of specimens received in SP and enrichment of the specimens in GN, followed by plating, were the greatest number of Shigella and Salmonella organisms obtained from rectal swabs, possibly because of the following:nGram-positive cocci and spore-bearing organisms were suppressed by the sodium desoxycholate in the medium.
