In this study, classes of an Instructor Group (a total of 64 students) were taught a five-day course in Principles of Radio by one of two instructors who were rated well above -the average in instructional ability by their supervisors. Similar content was presented to each of three experimental groups (64 students in each group) through one of three alterna¬tive procedures in which the information-giving role of the instructor was eliminated and the course content presented using mass media. Lessons were presented to these groups by means of tape recordings and a workbook, a mimeographed notebook, or by tape recordings .and slides. All four groups were matched on the basis of the Electronics Technician Apti¬tude Index. An examination of 117 test questions covering the material taught was admin¬istered to classes in all four groups at the end of the five-day course. To provide a measure of initial level of knowledge; this examination was administered to a matched Control Group; of 161 students who underwent no training.
