Because of the lack of trained personnel, treatment directed against hemorrhagic shock has been unsatisfactory in large disasters and in remote locations. In particular, need exists for a method of administering plasma substi¬tutes in flight to injured Air Force personnel by individuals untrained in venipuncture. The subcutaneous injection of plasma expanders appeared a possibility worth exploring.
