PB128656nDeflection characteristics of aircraft tires have been modified to provide for higher loads at high deflection without changing the normal load for normal operating deflection. This has been accomplished by the development of three types of load supporting members which function inside a tubeless casing a solid rubber inner cushion, a pneumatic inner chamber resembling a conventional tire and a closed, headless, pneumatic inner cushion* Tire assemblies containing these inner members have successfully passed limited indoor dynamic tests. The closed chamber type which has been more extensively tested on the flywheel dynamometer appears to be superior to the others as a potential means of extending the life of tires used in carrier services Subject to design, fabrication and testing of wheels, the closed chamber tire assemblies with minor modifications indicated in our report have been developed to the level that service testing may properly be considered.
