The Molar Refraction of Carbon Dioxide and its Dependence on Density and Age.Part Ⅱ

Determinations of the molar refraction of new and aged samples of carbon dioxide were made to establish whether or not the variation of molar refraction with density presented in the previous report was due to the presence of carbon monoxide in the aged samples. The effect of water vapor in the gas was also investigated.nSamples of aged gas were filtered through copper oxide at approximately 250° to remove carbon monoxide, and the molar refraction of the filtered gas was determined. In all cases the molar refraction of the filtered samples was found to be constant with density within the precision of determination, duplicating the results found previously with samples of fresh carbon dioxide. These were then re-checked, and the independence of molar refraction with respect to density was confirmed.
