Processing of rigid isocyanate-based self-fabricating foams consists of all of the steps intervening between the addition of an aromatic diisocyanate to the foaming resin and disassembly of the mold to obtain the cured product. This study, however, was lim¬ited to a determination of the effect of variations in mixing cycles prior to pouring, since these factors predetermine the quality of a foamed product to a far greater extent than type of mold and baking cycles.nA detailed study of mixing techniques in the liquid state was considered warranted in view of the Improvements needed for more extensive applications of foaming-in-place (FLP) compositions to radomes.nIt is presently being reinves¬tigated by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory in the foaming of improved KDM-1 wings based on new unsaturated foaming alkyds capable of terpolymer reactions in cross-linking with triallylcyanurate monomer after expansion is effected by the sequence of polymeric reactions promoted by low-temperature processing, using pulverized dry-ice or carbon dioxide snow coolant in the manner described in this report.
