A flame photometer designed for use in an airplane, (see Figures 1 and 2) to discuss its use in conjunction with a different method of measuring airborne salt, and to give some of the first data obtained. This instrument measures and records the average voltage output of a photocell which is exposed to the sodium flashes in a flame. This voltage output has been related to the quantity of sea-salt particles in the air, by comparison with direct simultaneous sampling of these salt particles.
