The Information Bearing Elements in Band Width Limited Signals

The role of sampling in modern communication theory end applications is discussed, with particular emphasis on amplitude samples at uniform intervals end short-term spectral density or auto-correlation functions. A number of difficulties encountered in the use of conventional sampling techniques and modulation systems are shown to illustrate the need for a generalization of the sampling theorem.
