摘要

An approximate method for computing thermal stresses in a thin plate of variable thickness is presented. The temperature and the thick­ness can both vary chordwise and spanwise, and the effect of the free end is automatically included. The method makes use of polynomial ap­proximations for the stress function to reduce the partial differential equation to a set of ordinary differential equations. This results in satisfying the differential equation everywhere spanwise and at a finite number of stations chordwise. The boundary conditions are everywhere satisfied.
