This report contains data and conclusions, from several phases of a six-year fundamental research project. Dis¬cussed are new physical and chemical properties of vit¬reous humor during light and dark adaptation and the changes that occur in vitreous throughout light and dark adaptation, as they are observed under a wide variety of laboratory techniques. Psychophysical studies of human threshold sensitivity are presented and discussed as to their relationship to physical and chemical processes of vitreous, and unique methods for obtaining visual psychophysical threshold data and for presenting them in terms of known quantal and energy contents are given. Inter¬relationships among ERG components are analyzed, and new techniques for. analysis of EEG and other cyclic phenomena are described. Suggestions are made for practical applications of the research to aviation and .military operations.
