NONTECHNICAL FACTORS IN THE JOB PERFORMANCE OF AIRCRAFT MECHANICS:STUDY Ⅱ

This study is an attempt to verify and extend the findings of an earlier research project concerned with the dimensions of aircraft maintenance mechanics' on-the-job proficiency. This was done by analyzing the mechanics' characteristics, as rated by the mechanics them¬selves and by their supervisors. These characteristics were for the most part nontechnical in nature, i.e., not pertaining to technical job knowledge but rather to the motivational aspects of the job situation. Data were gathered from 85 aircraft mechanics who rated themselves on vari¬ous aspects of their jobs; at the same time their supervisors rated them on over-all proficiency and also on more specific behavior characteristics.
