Nonaqueous titrimetric methods have been developed for the determination of the ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, and trinitrotoluene contents of cratering charges. The total inorganic ingredients were determined as bases in the pres¬ence of the TNT by titrating an aliquot of a glacial acetic acid solution of a sample of the cratering charge. A per¬chloric acid-dioxane mixture was used as the titrant and crystal violet as the visual end point indicator. The ammo-nium nitrate content was preferentially determined as a base by titration with the same titrant of an aliquot from the same acetic acid solution. Anhydrous chloroform was used as the major constituent of the titration medium, and glass-versus-calomel electrodes were used to indicate the end point potenti-omerrically.
