摘要

THE MIRAN SYSTEM IS A MEANS OF DETERMINING THE POSITION OF A MISSILE BY MEASURING THE TRAVEL TIME OF AN ELECTRONIC PULSE FROM A TRANSMITTER TO SEVERAL STATIONS VIA THE MISSILE.nTHE METHOD OF LEAST SQUARES IS USED TO OBTAIN POSITION COORDINATES OF THE MISSILE BY MINIMIZING THE SUM OF THE SQUARES OF THE RESIDUALS OF THE OBSERVED QUANTITIES. THE PRECISION OF THE MEASUREMENT IS ANALYZED BY DETERMINING FOR THE ADJUSTED POINT THE ELLIPSOID OF ERROR (INVARIANT UNDER COORDINATE TRANSFORMATIONS) AND THE MAGNITUDE OF INFLUENCE OF EACH STATION. NUMERICAL ILLUSTRATIONS SUFFICIENT TO CHECK OUT CODING OF A COMPUTER ARE INCLUDED.
