Investigation of the Factors which Affect the Life of Torsion Bar Springs

One hundred and forty six torsion bar springs, 5/8 inch diameter, with an effective length of 28 inches were manu¬factured and tested.nThe influence of the preset angle, the number of preset cycles, the minimum and maximum fatigue stresses, and creep on fatigue life was investigated. Limited information was also obtained on the effect of bar straighthess and shot peeningnTest results are presented in tabular and graphical form together with comments and analyses of same.
