CORROSION AND ITS PREVENTION AT BIMETALLIC CONTACTS

As a result of the ensuing electrolytic action, the cathodic metal tends to be protected but the anodic metal may suffer greater corrosion than when it is connected to a metal similar to itself. The Introduc¬tion provides information about the conditions in which bimetallic contacts arc most likely to lead to trouble¬some corrosion and also about means of mitigating such effects: the Table which follows should always be used with this information in mind.nThe Table is not to be regarded as infallible. The information given is largely qualitative: moreover, know¬ledge and experience of certain combinations is very inadequate and, in any case, it is impossible concisely to tabulate the effects of a wide variety of exposure conditions.
