摘要

A laboratory test was developed which was used as a means of measuring the effect of different factors influencing the breakdown of fuel pump diaphragms. Comparative tests were run using different gasolines, measured amounts of air, weighed amounts of different additives and different controlled temperatures. In a second phase of the investigation, sealed test jars containing segments of fuel pump diaphragm material immersed in gasoline were placed in an even at 150°F. Different amounts of copper were added to the test jars. The Jars were opened and inspected at intervals in order to detect diaphragm disintegration. The results of the laboratory tests and oven storage tests were compared.
