There have been four main limes of attack on the problem of the role of the lymphocytes in epithelial layers during the carrying out of the present project.n1.tSeveral experiments have been carried out designed to increase mitotic activity in the epidermis on the one hand or to suppress it on the other and to learn what the behavior of the lymphocytes in under these two opposite conditions.n2.tOur second line of attack has been a study of a large series of specimens of human skin taken from individuals during the course of surgical operation.n3.tA third method of attack has been through the study of pedigreed animals of known ages.n4.tOur fourth method of attack on the problem of the role of lymphocytes in epithelium has been an extension of this study to those lymphocytes which are migrating in large numbers into the epithelium of the intestinal mucosa.
