DEVITRIF ICATION OF HIGH TEMPERATURE RESISTANT CERAMIC COATING GLASSES

Through a better understanding of the factors which affect the equilibrium state of ceramic coating glasses it should be possible to improve their stability. It is the purpose of this research project to study and propose chemical and physical mechanisms which are responsible for the instability of many metal protective high temperature resistant ceramic coating glasses when subjected to elevated temperatures over prolonged periods of time.nThree, commercial soda-lime-silica glasses of known composi­tion, very clear and crystal free, devitrified almost completely when heated for 17 hours at871°C on platinum foil.
