摘要

The velocity and attenuation of sound in liquid ammonia and solu-tions of electrolytes and metals have been measured by the pulse tech¬nique from k to 52 megacycles over the temperature range -35° to -70°C.nThe high velocity of sound in ammonia does not support the predictions of free volume theory. The attentiation in ammonia exceeds the calculated classical attenuation. The ratio e^obs./c^ calc. for ammonia is consistent with the properties of an associated liquid.nThe velocity of sound in ammonous NaBr and Nal solutions relative to pure solvent and the corresponding adiabatic compressibilities resemble the nature of these properties in aqueous systems and are qualitatively explainable in terms of the electrostrlctive concept of ionic solutions. The attenuation of sound In the salt solutions was substantially larger than in corresponding aqueous solutions.
