An encapsulated input window with an independent gas fill has been incorporated in the design of a broadband duplexer tube. This design has been effective in separating the interdependence of the high-power characteristics of the TR tube. Recovery time and arc loss are determined predominantly by the input window design, whereas spike leakage energy and flat leakage power are determined by the tube body design. The two portions of the tube are designed independently for optimum performance. The effects of geometry, gas pressure, and nature of the gas on the behavior of the high-power characteristics have been investigated. The factors determining ade¬quate tube operation combined with reasonable tube life are discussed.
