摘要

The objective of this program was to survey the literature on the subject, the aircraft brake industry, and then to develop new improved brake linings and mating member alloys able to sustain high energy stop conditions.nTitanium and molybdenum reinforced linings were found to be very promising and are recommended for further development. The alloys capable of withstanding severe braking conditions were 30% molybdenum-70% titanium and 50% titanium-50% vanadium. Molybdenum also showed promise as being very valuable in future brake development either alone or alloyed.nMetal fiber reinforcement of metal-ceramic linings contributed considerably to the strength of the new materials.
