The name occupancy theory has been given to the distribution of a given number of objects into a given number of cells or compartments. It is interesting to note that a number of classical problems may be formulated as problems in occupancy theory.nThe purpose of this report is to present a generalized occupancy theory which will include the classical and restricted theories as special cases.
