Edge Strains of a Strip in Tension with a Central Hole

A photoelastic experiment is described in which the strains were determined along the straight edges of a strip in tension with a central hole. Five tests were performed by varying the ratio of hole diameter to strip width from 0.667 to 0.892. A comparison is made with results obtain-ed by other investigators and with corresponding measurements of the strain along the straight edges of a metal bar.
