In Section II concepts of the outer limits of recognition, the inner limits of visibility, and the optimum viewing points of check points are developed systematically and are given tentative numerical definitions as means for setting up selection standards. Problems concerning the field of view of the pilot are also treated.nIn Section III a design for a chart for the type of flight mission under discussion is explained and illustrated. The elimination of all background detail and the characterization of check points on the mar¬gins of the chart are special features.nIn Section IV the need for careful planning of the flight path Involving special planning charts is emphasized. Desirable character¬istics of these planning charts are outlined, and suggested procedures for compiling the navigational chart from them are given.
