Calculations of Dipole Moments and Ansolute Intensities of Hf, Hcl, and Hbr

It was shown that the calculated values of the absolute infrared intensities were in fair agreement with experimental data for a range of values of the s-p hybridization, provided the extent of the ionic character was chosen in such a way that the calculated values of the dipole moments agreed with measured results. Here it was also assumed that the extent of the s-p hybridization and of the ionic character did not vary appreciably with small changes of the internuclear distance and that the polarization of the non-bonding electrons could be neglected.
