The topic investigated is the relation between muscular tension and transfer of training effects. It was argued that the widely held theory of stimulus similarity' and response similarity as determining positive and negative transfer is inadequate becau.se it fails to take into account stimuli and responses which are undoubtedly present. Instead, it is proposed that the amount and sign of transfer may be determined by the relation of the system activities involved in all the responses occurring in the two situations.
