Investigations indicate that a transverse current TWT is superior to the longitudinal TWT as far as the minimum obtainable noise figure-is concerned. Workable tube structures may be difficult to achieve to realize the theoretical advantages. The transverse-field, transverse-current SHF traveling-wave tube is a promising device, even though it would possess operating characteristics quite different from those of existing tubes. A discussion of the work accomplished and preliminary Jesuits obtained are given in this report.
