The Development of Cargo Well Covers for Lcm’s

This report describes a cargo well cover designed and fabricated for an LCM-3 from a composite of five test materials, two of which were of plastic-coated cotton canvas and three of plastic-coated fibrous glass cloth. These materials were specifically designated for use by the Eureau of Ships, based upon previous investigations in which they had been found to be effective bar¬riers against heat and flash burns.nIn addition to design of the cargo well covers, the effect of prolonged, continuous, outdoor weathering on the cover fabrics has been studied and is discussed.
