Standard tensile specimens of cellu¬lose nitrate plastics were (a) exposed outdoors at Picatinny Arsenal and at several other locations for three years, (b) stored in the dark at 160°F for two years, (c) stored in the dark at standard laboratory conditions (77°F and 50% rela¬tive humidity) for three years, and (d) ex¬posed to sunlight for periods ranging from one day to one month and subse¬quently stored for various periods in the dark at 160°F. Degradation was detected by periodic physical tests.
