It is believed that this report will be useful for mathematicians who wish to master Professor Leray’s important contribution with less effort than is required for reading his Princeton lectures. Hhen the analysis of Leray’s work was already well advanced further contributions to the Cauchy theory for hyperbolic systems were Garding (in summary for the general case). These works were studied in as much detail as possible.
