Reflex Effects of Acute Hypertension in the Pulmonary Vascular Bed of the Dog

This study demonstrates that the response of the intact dog to acute hyper¬tension in the peripheral pulmonary vascular bed consists of three components:n1) A drop in systemic pressure.n2) Bradycardia.n3) A change in the respiratory pattern (depression or stimulation).nThis study corroborates in the dog the original findings in the cat of Churchill and Cope regarding the response of the cardiovascular system to acute pulmonary hypertension. The respiratory response, however, was found to be less consistent in character and somewhat different than that described by these investigators。
