Investigation of Aluminum Base Bearing Materials for Field Artillery Applications

Sleeve bearings made of four aluminum base alloys and a bronze, currently used for sleeve bearings in field artillery, were tested for wear at one and ten rpm using a load of 800 psi and free flowing SAE 10 oil for lubrication. Results obtained with the aluminum alloys are compared with those obtained with bronze.
