Research on Metallic Phases in Systems of Transition Metal with Non-Metals

The first year of research sponsored under contract AF 61(052)-40 has been mainly devoted to investigations of metallic phases formed in systems of the eighth group metals with boron, siliceous, and phosphorous. The borides, silicon-des and phosphates of the iron and platinum metals are very little explored. A number of such phases exist and increased knowledge of their composition and crystal chemistry is necessary before a comprehensive discussion of phases between transition metals and non-metals (with small atomic radii) is possible.
