THE ELASTOPLASTIC THICK-WALLED SPHERE SUBJECTED TO RISING TEMPERATURE GRADIENTS

An exact solution is obtained for the behavior of an ideal elastoplastic hollow sphere subjected to a monotonically increasing temperature gradient. An approximate rigid-plastic solution is also developed and compared with the exact solution. A technique for improving the approximate solution is indicated. Finally, the extension of the analysis to the case in which yield stress depends on temperature is discussed.
