摘要

During the past four years, the Chemical Engineering Division has investigated factors that contribute to corrosion in idle boilers. The studies to date show that air (oxygen) definitely is a major contributing factor, that partially filled tubes are attacked much more severely than completely filled tubes, and that conventional boiler water treatment chemicals in presently prescribed concentrations localize attack rather than to prevent it completely in partially filled ferrous containers.
