A Survey of Current Research and Development in the Field of Dosimetry

A survey of current practices used in high-level dosimetry of gamma, neutron, and mixed fields is presented. Chemical and colorimetric systems including ferrous-ferric, ceric-cerous, gas evolution, nitrous oxide, various dyes, and polymers have been con¬sidered. Silver-activated phosphate and other glasses are dis¬cussed. Ionization chambers for either gamma ray or neutron measurements have been commonly employed at very high dose rates and several designs are discussed.
